the death penalty

i have no stand on this particular issue.

i support the notion that every country is sovereign of its own land and the current goverment has every right to carry out its laws, even if i may not agree with such a law.

my attitude is quite simple. if you don't like it, run for goverment and change the law. if you don't want to do that, then shut up or simply leave the country.

for those outsiders who don't like the way a certain country is run, don't go there. don't visit, don't transit, don't read its newspapers or watch their news. it will only cause you unneccessary grief.

i currently live in singapore, but i was born in malaysia, and i lived in australia for almost 8 years.

I left malaysia becos i didn't like that other people had unfair greater social and financial benefits than me. I believe in a meritocratic society. so, when my application for local universities were rejected (even though i had the grades for it) due to the "quota system", i decided to move to singapore to further my studies. again due to a 'quota system' i wasn't able to get into a singapore polytechnic. i did A levels instead. once again after my A levels, i couldnt get into a singapore uni. quota system or just not good enough grades, i don't know. there were friends who had similar grades as me and they got in, but i didn;t.. it did make me wonder...

i went to australia to do my degree. many years later i went back to australia again to work. i lived there for 3 years paying about 30% of my salary in income tax. this pissed me off. i worked near a CentreLink. to those uninitiated, CentreLink is were u get your social welfare $$. i must admit that there are many people in australia who are in serious need of welfare, but a whole bunch of them are just lazy buggers. bleeding the system dry. people like me who work hard to earn a living having to pay a third of my salary to support these freaking idiots! that's just not on!

moreover, immigration makes it tougher and tougher for people like me to get a PR, but freely gives them to people who don't have a job, education or even speak freaking english!!!!!

i would have gone into politics and change the system, but u need to be a citizen to do that. and they won't even give me my PR! so, as i said much earlier, if you don't or can't run for goverment, shut up or leave. well i shut up for 3 years. couldn't take it, so i left.

now, i still love australia. people are nice, air is clean, weather is beautiful, wide open spaces, uninterrupted views of the horizon when on the beach, lots of places to see and do things. but only as a holiday maker or retiree that i'll go back there.

i'm young, eager, business-minded, full of energy, singapore is still a better place for me to be. the govt here promotes entrepreneurship and gives tax rebates. I still get frustrated once in a while with the way things are done here, but they aren't bad enough for me to want to leave. so, i'll be here for a while.

it doesn't really matter to me anymore where i live. i'm kinda displaced. do i feel malaysian, singaporean or aussie, someone asked me recently...

honestly, none of the above and all of the above.
